Early Life:

George Edward Lopez was born on April 23, 1961, in Mission Hills, LA, California. His parents, Frieda and Anastasio Lopez were both from Mexico. His father left him when he was only two months old, and his mother remarried and moved out to live with her new husband when he was ten.

George was raised by his maternal grandparents.

He went to San Fernando High School and finished in 1979. George didn’t go to university after that.

Career:

Lopez spent years performing stand-up comedy in Los Angeles and across the United States before gaining prominence in the city due to his morning radio show on 92.3 FM during the 1990s. He was the first Latino to host the morning drive slot on an English-language station in Los Angeles. He began releasing comedy albums in 1996, starting with “Alien Nation.” In 2000, Sandra Bullock approached Lopez about producing and starring in a sitcom that focused on Latinos, as she was concerned about the lack of representation in the genre.

In 2002, ABC picked up the “George Lopez” series, making him one of the few Latinos to headline a television sitcom. The series aired from 2002 to 2007 and on Nick at Night for the 2007-2008 season before its cancellation after the sixth season.

Lopez produced the HBO Films drama “Real Women Have Curves,” which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival and received the 2002 Audience Award. He was on HBO’s “Inside the NFL” in 2003-2004 for the football season.

In 2004, George’s kidneys got messed up ’cause of a genetic issue, so he needed a transplant. His wife stepped up and gave him one of her kidneys.

In September 2010, Ann and George said they were splitting up. Ann started the divorce process back in November 2010 and it was finalized in July 2011.
