Jon Rahm Rodríguez was born on November 10, 1994, in Barrika, Basque Country, Spain. The origin of his middle name “Rahm” can be traced back to a Swiss ancestor who migrated to Spain in the 1780s.Raised by a Basque father and a mother with Madrid roots, Jon developed an affinity for the Athletic Club Bilbao soccer team during his childhood. Upon completing secondary education in Spain, he secured a golf scholarship to Arizona State University. While pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications, Jon represented the university’s golf team, amassing a total of 11 tournament victories—an achievement only surpassed by fellow Arizona State alumnus Phil Mickelson.

Rahm pursued his education at Arizona State University on a golf scholarship, where he achieved the remarkable feat of securing 11 collegiate golf tournament victories. He made history as the first player to receive the prestigious Ben Hogan Award consecutively in 2015 and 2016. In April 2015, Rahm ascended to the top position in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), maintaining it for an impressive 60 weeks. That same year, he was honored with the Mark H. McCormack Medal.
